    • Then, divide as you would with whole numbers and place the decimal point in the quotient.

Examples:

  • Place value: In 3.14, 3 is the whole number part, 1 is in the tenths place, and 4 is in the hundredths place.
  • Comparison: 2.5 is greater than 2.3 because 5 tenths is greater than 3 tenths.
  • Addition: 3.25 + 4.17 = 7.42
  • Subtraction: 5.6 – 2.3 = 3.3
  • Multiplication: 2.5 * 3.2 = 8.00
  • Division: 6.4 ÷ 2 = 3.2

5. Express as kg using decimals.

Total amount spent = Rs. 35.75 + Rs. 32.60 = Rs. 68.35

Therefore, Rashid spent Rs. 68.35 in total.

3. Radhika’s mother gave her 10.50 and her father gave her 15.80, find the total amount given to Radhika by the parents.

Ans : 

Total amount given to Radhika = Amount given by mother + Amount given by father

= Rs. 10.50 + Rs. 15.80

= Rs. 26.30

Therefore, Radhika’s parents gave her a total of Rs. 26.30.

4. Nasreen bought 3 m 20 cm cloth for her shirt and 2 m 5 cm cloth for her trouser. Find the total length of cloth bought by her.

Ans : 

Total length of cloth bought = Length of cloth for shirt + Length of cloth for trouser

  • Length of cloth for shirt = 3 m 20 cm = 3.20 m
  • Length of cloth for trouser = 2 m 5 cm = 2.05 m

Therefore, Total length of cloth bought = 3.20 m + 2.05 m = 5.25 m

So, Nasreen bought a total of 5.25 meters of cloth.

5. Naresh walked 2 km 35 m in the morning and 1 km 7 m in the evening. How much distance did he walk in all?

Ans : 

Total distance walked = Distance walked in the morning + Distance walked in the evenin

  • Distance walked in the morning = 2 km 35 m = 2.035 km
  • Distance walked in the evening = 1 km 7 m = 1.007 km

Therefore, Total distance walked = 2.035 km + 1.007 km = 3.042 km

So, Naresh walked a total of 3.042 kilometers.

6. Sunita travelled 15 km 268 m by bus, 7 km 7 m by car and 500 m on foot in order to reach her school. How far is her school from her residence?

Ans : 

Total distance travelled = Distance by bus + Distance by car + Distance by foot

  • Distance by bus = 15 km 268 m = 15.268 km
  • Distance by car = 7 km 7 m = 7.007 km
  • Distance by foot = 500 m = 0.5 km (since 1000 m = 1 km)

Therefore, Total distance travelled = 15.268 km + 7.007 km + 0.5 km = 22.775 km

So, Sunita’s school is 22.775 km away from her residence.

7. Ravi purchased 5 kg 400 g rice, 2 kg 20 g sugar and 10 kg 850g flour. Find the total weight of his purchases.

Ans : 

Total weight of Ravi’s purchases = Weight of rice + Weight of sugar + Weight of flour

  • Weight of rice = 5 kg 400 g = 5.400 kg
  • Weight of sugar = 2 kg 20 g = 2.020 kg
  • Weight of flour = 10 kg 850 g = 10.850 kg

Therefore, Total weight = 5.400 kg + 2.020 kg + 10.850 kg = 18.270 kg

So, the total weight of Ravi’s purchases is 18.270 kg.
